What is Pectus Deformity? Pectus deformity is the most frequent among the congenital chest wall deformities. It's frequency is %0,01-0,1 among the population. Pectus deformity has mainly two types;the first one is pectus excavatum in which the sternum is depressed into the thoracic cage. The second one is pectus carinatum in which the sternum is protruded outside the thoracic cage.Due to the volume depletion of the thorax in pectus excavatum, exercise and effort capacity might be restricted.Due to the displacement of the heart retrograted blood flow in the valvuler region is possible in some cases .These symptoms doesn't occur in pectus carinatum cases. Pectus deformity doesn't reduce the life span of the patients;however the patients might have severe phsychological problems. In %90 percent of the patients correction surgery is performed due to the cosmetic reasons.
